This group afternoon wine experience is a great introduction to wines of the Franschhoek Valley. Visiting 3 wineries, our knowledgeable and experienced wine guides will give you a basic introduction to the region's wine industry and history. For each individual winery you will be introduced to its unique products and information on the winemaker and any awards won.
We will visit the following vineyards:
Situated on the foothills of the Klein Drakenstein Mountains just outside Franschhoek, Lynx Wines is the smallest Wine Estate in the Valley producing less that 7000 cases per annum.
At Lynx all wines are produced from grapes grown on the estate since 2003. Since then the range has grown and now stands at an impressive eleven wines. The wines have continued to perform well winning numerous gold awards, being placed in the top ten Shirazâ??s in South Africa, and scoring 90 points in Wine Enthusiast (USA).
A South African winery owned by two renowned French Vignerons. It is the only solely French owned winery in Franschhoek; The French corner of South Africa which during 1688 was settled by 176 French Huguenot families fleeing religious persecution. A touch of France in Franschhoek.
Haut Espoir vineyard has been developed and run by the Armstrong Family since 1999. They produce distinctive, handcrafted wines in harmony with nature. The vineyard is planted with shiraz, cabernet sauvignon, merlot, petit verdot and cabernet franc. A large portion of the vineyard is dedicated to fynbos restoration, a riverine ecosystem, olive groves and an organic garden.
At Haut Espoir, winemaking goes hand in hand with conservation demonstrated by the biodynamic agriculture applied since 2011. The vineyard focuses on on minimal impact to the environment with their viticultural practices. The have actively restored the environment around vineyard and use no fungicides, insecticides or commercially bought fertilisers are used. Water conservation is practiced daily and winery effluent is managed through a bio-reactor and wetland system.
