Duration: 9 hours
Highly weather and season dependent full day tour involves a long day at sea with the potential reward of awesome blue shark interaction and wide variety of pelagic bird species. Travelling between 10 and 30 nautical miles off Cape Point in search of blue Aghulas current water which can reach 23C. When we find suitable water, we begin attaching the sharks with a scent trail of bait typically taking half hour to an hour to encourage the sharks to visit us by the boat.
The Blue sharks are inquisitive and typically spend a long time with the divers. It is a shallow dive, maintaining a depth of between 5 and 7 metres to make the dive as long as possible which are typically in excess of one hour. The tour is done on our comfortable 34-foot ButtCat which offers a good platform for the experience with its space, shade, dive-platform, on-board toilet. If we are lucky, we can have a short visit from a Mako shark which typically come to take a peek at the divers before being on their way.
Trip can be enjoyed by divers and non-divers, who can enjoy the interaction on snorkel. We provide a full lunch of sandwiches, fruits, biscuits, chocolates, fresh water and juice to keep energy levels up during the day. The package includes any dive equipment required.
Because of the high dependence on perfect weather, this trip cannot be scheduled far in advance.
We aim to depart as early as possible, at first light, typically 6am, meeting at the Town Jetty in Simon's Town. If you require more dive kit than a cylinder and weights, you must arrange for those the day before. Everyone will be briefed on the boat in Simon's Town Harbour, before we make our way towards the deep water to look for sharks and birds. Upon finding nice water, we will begin to attract sharks. Once we have sharks around the boat, we can join the sharks for interaction and photos. Once all of the divers have completed the dive, we will all enjoy some lunch together and head back to Simon's Town. Returning to the harbour between 1400 and 1700 depending on the distance that we've had to travel that day.
