For those with minimal sailing experience. This course includes: * An intense Competent Crew course plus comprehensive chart work. * Navigation * Day skipper training and 200nm of practical sailing. * Pilotage * Navigation around Knysna.

Upon successful completion, students receive: * SAS Day Skipper Course Completion Certificates.
In conjunction with a marine DSC/VHF radio license, 200nm (including 2 night hours) and an eye test, the successful student may apply for the SAS Day Skipper’s license from South African Sailing. This license qualifies the holder to skipper a yacht offshore 25 miles from a safe haven or inland during daylight hours.

Itinerary

  • Programme starts at 08h30 and runs till around 17h00 daily.
  • Most days we conduct classroom / theory training in the morning and head off around 11h00 for practical sailing for the rest of the day
  • During the 8-day training we will include one night entry into either Mossel Bay port or Knysna
  • Usually the final assessment takes place on the 9th day (Sunday) which includes one practical and two written exams; viz. collision regulations and navigation
